Last night lollie & I went to see the Avett Brothers. A wonderful folk rock/modern bluegrass band hailing from North Carolina. I love-love-love them!
as seen on Pres. Clinton Ave.
While a good time was had, the night was not as wonderful as I had planned. A 12 hour headache {guess that's a migraine. lol} put a bit of a damper on my adventure. It's a wonder I didn't od on ibuprofen. lol. Still, my headache never left me. *pout* Nonetheless, I had an enjoyable time with such wonderful music and hanging out with a good friend.
The show was at the Rev Room in downtown Little Rock - a pretty decent place for LR. The website said doors opened at 7pm & show starts at 8pm. WELL - it was about 9:30 or 10:00 before the opening act even took stage, but it was worth it. The opener was a solo acoustic and harmonica act. Good folk singer from Orlando, FL, Matt Butcher. First thought was Bob Dylan inspired - we didn't listen to all of his set, but caught the first song & last 2. His last song was a Neko Case cover - lollie was in love from that instant. I do agree that Neko Case is to die for.
I think it was about 10:30 when the Avett Brothers took stage. I just LOVE them, they are so full of emotion & energy. The latest album they are out promoting now is actually called 'Emotionalism' - VERY fitting.
Paranoia in B Minor - 5/03/08
My favorite instrument is the upright bass, and YES - the Avett Brothers have an upright bass player in the band. To add to my happiness, it was a lovely surprise to find that they had been accompanied by Joe Kwon, a cello player that sometimes tours with them. I believe he only plays with them at live shows, but I could be wrong. Anyway - he was mad talented and I REALLY enjoyed watching him play. I love watching peoples emotions in relation to music.
The Avett bros. are from North Carolina, as I already mentioned, and the band encompasses; brothers Scott & Seth Avett and Bob Crawford. The have 5 albums that I know of, could be more, but I'm too lazy to google it right now. Well worth the listen if you have never heard them. SERIOUSLY! Go listen to them on that myspace place CLICK HERE
When they left the stage everyone chanted for them to play 'one more song'. Since they kick so much A, they did come back and do an encore! One song that the brothers preformed alone {I don't know the title} & then 'Will You Return'. Then it was all over. :(
So that was my evening last night in a nutshell. Good music, wicked BAD migraine {the kind where those big veins on your temples throb visibly!}, decent food before the show, only 4 drinks over a 7 hour span & then home to bed!
Please enjoy the poor photos & video that I took on my POS hp digital camera. I MADE myself enjoy the show - I even danced around & yelled a bit - which didn't help the headache or the video quality. lol
xoxo- Tally
P.S. a few more photos to come - so check back. {see all videos in my videos link and all photos in the 'events' category of my photos link.} P.S.S. The sound quality on my videos SUCKS - turn up your speakers. lol
